iPhone software update tested by developers

Software developers have been given the first taste of iOS 4.3 in beta form, which means that Apple's next mobile operating system update is nearing completion. It also means that the media has been given a better idea of what new features can be expected to arrive on the iPhone 4 in the coming weeks.
Rumours about the ability to use the iPhone as a portable Wi-Fi hotspot have been confirmed by reports surrounding iOS 4.3, which means you will be able to share its network connectivity with any other Wi-Fi enabled device.
Changes are also coming to the iPhone's video shooting capabilities. Now you will be able to apply special effects on the fly, so that you can see what the results will look like as you are recording a clip, rather than having to wait and apply snazzy tweaks afterwards.
This video effects overhaul will also be available when using the FaceTime video calling feature, which means whole conversations can be had while looking at your contact as if they were inside of a kaleidoscope.
The iOS 4.3 platform will also make changes to the iPad tablet, which runs on the same basic hardware as the iPhone 4. It will enhance the multitouch features to include sensitivity for various gestures, which means the device will be able to detect five individual fingers simultaneously.
This news comes in a week that has seen the arrival of rumours suggesting that Apple is going to ditch the physical home button altogether from future iPhone and iPad models, relying entirely on gestures to enable app-exiting and screen unlocking. This could be the first stage in a series of software updates that eventually have ramifications on the actual phone hardware, bringing users to a brave new button-free world.
