iPhone owners selling up to save some cash

The Apple iPhone 4 is one of the most desirable handsets on the market, but it comes at a price and those who have bought one and subsequently required an extra injection of cash, are selling their mobiles online, in order to recoup the value of their prized gadget.
There was a 70 per cent jump in the number of people looking to recycle their mobiles during the final week of 2010, according to a report in the Guardian, with this surge in interest sustained as January began.
The mobile recycling boom has seen many smartphone owners part with their old phones and the Nokia 5800 Xpress Music topped the sales charts, followed closely by the iPhone 3GS and BlackBerry Curve.
Consumers can expect to bag around £150 for this older model iPhone and it is likely that the 18 month contracts picked up by many users in the past have come to a close, encouraging them to recycle and revive the value of their handsets.
However, while these old mobiles are not unusual to see being recycled in large numbers, it has emerged that iPhone 4 and HTC handsets which have only been out for a few months, were also recycled in abundance after Christmas 2010.
A used iPhone 4 with 32GB of storage can be sold for £360, which is quite a decent sum for anyone who is in a pinch and needs an extra financial boost.
Up to 100 iPhone 4 handsets are being recycled via specific sites like Mazuma Mobile on a daily basis, according to company spokesperson, Charlo Carabott.
Mr Carabott pointed out that while some iPhone 4 owners are recycling them as a result of money issues, there are many who have simply picked them up as part of an upgrade from their network and subsequently decided that they would rather keep using their existing handsets.
