iPhone 5 launch halted by CPU issues

The already delayed arrival of the iPhone 5 could be hampered further by a set of problems with the phone's processor, perhaps pushing its arrival into the new year.
It is strongly suggested that the iPhone 5 will have a dual core processor similar to that currently found in the iPad 2. However, word on the street is that the chip is getting too hot when operating within the confines of a super-slim smartphone.
According to reports in 9to5Mac, the issues with temperature may cause Apple to hold off the production of the iPhone 5 until it can use the newer, more efficient A6 CPUs, which are destined to reach the market come the start of 2012.
Should this be the case then Apple might still refresh the existing iPhone 4 towards the end of 2011, putting an 'S' tag on the end of its name as it did with the iPhone 3GS and leaving the design and major components largely identical.
If Apple does take this route then we could see a second iPhone iteration within a few months, which would mean that an early 2012 launch might work well in this timeframe.
Problems with overheating processors could be enough to put any mobile's development on the rocks and it is certainly a plausible scenario. However, whether or not it is indeed afflicting the creation of the new iPhone remains to be seen, as the unverified sources for this story might well turn out to be incorrect.
Although the iPhone 4 is only a little over a year old it is already looking very long in the tooth from a technical point of view. Its processor is a single core chip, its display is only 3.5 inches in size and its software is in dire need of modernisation so that Android does not eclipse it completely.
