Windows Phone 8 details rumoured

A series of leaks have appeared this week, allegedly containing details about the upcoming Windows Phone 8 mobile operating system.
Windows Phone was revived towards the end of 2010, when Microsoft launched its fresh WP7 on the market and, in the interim, a number of compelling and critically acclaimed handsets sporting the platform have arrived.
It was initially thought that Windows Phone Apollo would be just another iteration of WP7, but it now seems that this major update will actually be labelled as Windows Phone 8, in keeping with Microsoft's upcoming Windows 8 desktop operating system.
Leaked screenshots published by Nokia Innovation, appear to show that WP8 will have integration for VoIP service Skype, which could end up being something of a sticking point for network providers looking to support the platform.
Microsoft acquired Skype last year and there was always talk of its emergence as a part of the Windows Phone eco-system, but now this is looking more likely than ever.
Calling via Skype would allow users to bypass traditional voice calls altogether, potentially taking money out of the pockets of providers as a result.
Skype to Skype calls are free, so if a user is harnessing a Wi-Fi network, rather than their mobile's data connection, they will be able to chat unhindered by any kind of costs.
Microsoft is also expected to utilise Nokia Maps for Windows Phone 8, rather than Bing Maps, as has been harnessed in previous iterations.
In terms of interface, Microsoft looks like it has not seen fit to mess with the Metro UI that makes Windows Phone devices look so distinctive.
Expect to hear much more information about Windows Phone 8 via official sources, as it is thought that it will make its first public appearance during a conference held on the 20th of June, over in San Francisco.
