Windows Phone 7 updates announced

Microsoft has revealed details about a pair of updates for Windows Phone 7 handsets, the first of which will arrive in March, with the second coming in the autumn.
Microsoft had been hinting at the updates for some time, but it has now been confirmed that all current Windows Phone 7 handsets will enjoy various new features, once the two-week rollout begins next month.
Among the biggest surprises is the announcement that full Twitter integration will be added to the platform, a feature which was sorely missing from the initial release. This will allow updates to be delivered direct to the homescreen and will factor in tweets to the contact list.
The native web browser for Windows Phone 7 is being updated to Internet Explorer 9 and although there is still no support for Flash content, there will at least be HTML5 compatibility, as well as improved browser acceleration for smoother surfing.
Enhanced multitasking functionality is another feature promised by Microsoft in the update due later in the year, opening up the ability for third party apps to run in the background in a manner not currently available.
Users will be able to switch between applications by holding the back button on their handsets and getting an instant overview of the running programs in a series of swipe-friendly snapshots.
The gaming credentials of all Windows Phone 7 handsets are set to be expanded, with Kinect integration. Little is currently known about this feature, but it looks like players will be able to interact with Xbox 360 games using their mobiles and the motion-sensitive Kinect peripheral.
Microsoft will reveal more about the second, hefty update to Windows Phone 7 in April, but meanwhile users can look forward to the first update in March, according to TechRadar.
