Windows Phone 7 destined for exciting 2011

With new handsets and rumours of an incredible partnership, 2011 could be the year that Windows Phone 7 really takes off, after failing to impress with its initial performance since its November launch.
The Mobile World Congress, which is an event held in Barcelona every February, is set to be the launch pad for many mobile phones, but Windows Phone 7 is going to be among the most exposed platforms, as several manufacturers have handsets running the platform ready to make a debut.
Acer is bringing the E600 to the table with Windows Phone 7 onboard and expect to see low-cost options from Chinese manufacturer ZTE, which is gearing up for the official launch of the platform in its homeland with at least one handset. Laptop manufacturer Lenovo is also getting in on the act.
In other news, it has recently been rumoured that Microsoft is in talks with Nokia, the world's largest mobile manufacturer, with the implication being that this will result in Windows Phone 7 turning up on mobiles from this Finnish firm.
This story was made public by regular mobile leaker Eldar Murtazin and it is not as farfetched as it might seem. This is because the once all-powerful Nokia is failing to find its feet in the modern market and is in need of a platform that can compete with the likes of Android and Apple's iOS.
Nokia is also under the control of a former Microsoft executive, which means that negotiations between the two firms would be easy to initiate. Of course this is all speculation at the moment, but it means that the next 12 months will be an interesting time for the software giant's fledgling smartphone software.
Anyone who is thinking about upgrading their phone might be well advised to wait until after MWC 2011, when a slew of new handsets will arrive and recycling your phone to make some cash will be sensible.
