Value of Unused Gadgets in UK Households Totted Up

In the post-festive period, people across the country will be using the latest tech they received for Christmas and making the most of the cutting-edge features and functions. However, in many cases this means that plenty of older devices will have been put to one side and could ultimately sit in limbo indefinitely.
The Telegraph reports that a typical UK household has discarded gadgets worth £127 sitting around unused, which is clearly a wasted resource which savvy consumers should really make efforts to tap into.
As well as old mobile phones, lots of other types of gadgets such as games consoles, laptops, desktops and tablets can all retain their value over time, even if they are a little long in the tooth.
The decision to sell old gadgets rather than leaving them to gather dust is not just about recovering a bit of cash but also about making a positive impact on the environment. Even if these items are no longer in working order, they can be recycled so that all of the scarce expensive materials they contain do not stay locked up within them.
Precious metals like gold are present in most gadgets, and so by having a spring clean and selling unused devices, millions of households could help to reduce the amount of effort which is currently required to extract and process valuable materials in their raw form.
In recent years there has been a more hectic upgrade cycle for a wider variety of devices, with mobile phones leading the way while other types of gadgets follow suit. Upgrading TV sets to add new features like 4K, HDR and OLED panels is one example of this, which makes e-waste recycling even more important, especially in the current climate of increased climate consciousness.
