Updated user interface headed for Dell Streak

Dell is allegedly prepping a brand new custom interface for its Android-based Streak smartphone, which will come in tandem with the update which brings version 2.2 of Google's platform to the table.
The Streak is a noteworthy handset largely due to its five inch screen which allows it to straddle the smartphone/tablet divide with ease. Dell did tinker with Android a little, but its user interface (UI) update will bring something called Stage UI to users in the UK.
It is currently predicted that the Android 2.2 and Stage UI update will be touching down in Europe before the end of the year, as the Japanese launch of the Streak will see it roll out of the factory with this software onboard.
Interestingly, a source on YouTube has already shown Dell's Stage UI in operation on a handset from an entirely different manufacturer. The HTC Evo 4G, which is the US equivalent of the Desire HD, is shown to be running the software along with Android 2.2.
Early indications suggest that the Stage UI will have unique widgets and an intriguing homescreen arrangement, which benefits from the large screen offered by the Dell Streak. Android has not been completely obscured in the process, which means current users will not be left floundering once the update lands.
When the Dell Streak is held in a landscape orientation the seven homescreens will be seen to peek out from the edge of the display, while in portrait mode this effect will not be applied to maximise the usage of the onscreen space, according to fan site StreakSmart.
Custom UIs are not a new thing for Android smartphones. HTC has made waves with its Sense interface in recent months. However, Dell's attempt to replicate this definitely looks to be on the right track and should refresh the Streak in time for the festive season.
