Two new Acer smartphones appear

Acer has gradually been building a solid reputation for itself in the smartphone market, largely because it refuses to compete at the top end and, instead, sticks to well built entry level and mid range devices.
Although the Mobile World Congress event is set to take place next week, during which a bevy of fresh handsets will get their first public airing, Acer has decided to jump the gun and reveal details on a pair of upcoming devices that will definitely be hitting Europe later this year.
The first is the modest Liquid Z2, which is likely to sell in the UK for under 100 in its most basic guise, making it a prime contender in the pay as you go smartphone market.
It features a 3.5 inch display, a single core processor and 512MB of RAM. There will also be the option of a model with a three megapixel camera in the very cheapest price bracket, or a slightly costlier alternative, that has a five megapixel snapper.
The Acer Liquid E1, on the other hand, is a bit more performance-oriented. You get a dual core CPU clocked at 1GHz, a full gigabyte of RAM and an impressive 4.5 inch display.
The screen will use a qHD resolution, so while it might not match the 720p clarity we have come to expect from the likes of the HTC One X, it should feature enough pixels to keep punters happy.
The E1 will be a little more expensive than its sibling, with Acer stating that it will cost between 174 and 260, depending on retailer and network pricing.
Both of these devices run Android Jelly Bean and so give consumers the chance to experience the cutting edge of mobile operating systems without shelling out for a top rung smartphone.
