Trade in your old iPhone now to avoid a price drop

As followers of the Apple world will be aware, the 12th of September sees a much anticipated Apple Event. The company is expected to use this event at its campus in Cupertino, California to launch a new range of smartphones.
These are rumoured to include an iPhone XS as a successor to last year’s iPhone X, in addition to the biggest iPhone yet, with a screen size of 6.5 inches to compete with rival Samsung’s latest flagship model, likely to be called the XS Plus.
The new phones are expected to have faster processors thanks to improvements in chip technology that mean smaller gaps between transistors so that more can be fitted on each chip. There will also be a new operating system, iOS 12 announced earlier in the year, on display. Using iOS 12 delivers faster loading of apps, animated emoji and a Screen Time feature to track the amount of time you spend using apps.
But what does all this mean for existing iPhone users? Past experience shows that the release of new models is likely to lead to a fall in the value of older iPhone versions. Apple releases are pretty slick with phones usually available to order within days of a launch announcement. In the days following the launch of a new model values of older iPhones can drop by up to £50.
If you are thinking of upgrading therefore and want the best trade in value for your old iPhone, it’s worth taking action now. You might have to suffer switching to a more basic or older phone for a short time prior to getting your new model, but selling your old iPhone now could net you substantially more cash than if you wait until later in the month.
