Study considers growth of mobile recycling market

A new report into the industry that revolves around mobile phone recycling and the production of more environmentally sustainable handsets from TechNavio, has charted its predicted progress up to 2015.
The combined annual growth rate between now and then will be at 19.1 per cent, with most of the expansion being fuelled because people will be purchasing replacement devices at a faster rate than ever before.
Indeed, this makes sense when you consider that some manufacturers are now rolling out new flagship handsets every six months, rather than 12.
Network providers are also keen to accommodate those who want to upgrade their handset regularly, with a number of deals available to those high end users, who cannot stick with the same phone for more than a few months.
Some believe that we will have a new iPhone on the market less than half a year after the arrival of the iPhone 5, which would be an act that cements the faster turnover in the mainstream consciousness.
From the point of view of the eco-friendliness of new handsets, it is believed that ever-increasing regulatory strictness will ensure that fewer and fewer harmful substances are used in the manufacture of mobiles.
This in turn, will mean that mobile phones which are recycled will do less damage to the environment and prove to be less of a risk, should this type of e-waste come in contact with humans.
Analysts believe that there is still a need for awareness of mobile phone recycling facilities to be improved, so that the increased turnover of handset purchasing does not have a negative effect.
Indeed, many consumers may need to sell their old mobile phones to fund the purchase of a new device, since the residual value levels improve, if it is sold sooner rather than later.
