Stats show that Brits love recycling mobile phones

Mazuma reports that last year more than one in every seven British mobile users decided to recycle an unwanted portable handset, to make a little more cash and also to do their bit for the environment.
There are a growing number of companies now offering to buy old mobile phones online and so UK residents have more choice than ever before when it comes to which offer they decide to pick.
This also means that the market is competitive, since recycling sites find it necessary to offer good prices so that potential customers do not opt for a better deal from a rival.
When you recycle a mobile phone, the potentially harmful waste that it contains will be dealt with appropriately and its valuable parts can be harvested in order to make new devices in the future.
Many mobile phones which are sold for recycling are simply refurbished and passed on to a new owner, because while you may no longer need a device after an upgrade, if it is still functional, then there is certainly someone else out there who will gladly make use of it.
The amount of cash you receive for an old mobile phone will vary depending on its age and condition, as well as which manufacturer built it.
High end smartphones sold within the last couple of years will generally net you the most significant amount of cash when you sell your phone online, although many schemes will also take older and less prestigious devices off your hands and still pay a modest amount, which is better than earning nothing by letting it sit in a drawer.
Hopefully, 2013 will be a year in which mobile recycling rates rise even higher in the UK, as awareness grows.
