Sony Ericsson Xperia Duo snapped in spy shots

Images of what appears to be a next-gen Xperia brand handset from Sony Ericsson have leaked online, suggesting that the manufacturer is working on a dual core rival to the likes of the HTC Sensation and Samsung Galaxy S2.
The pictures appear to show a smartphone which has an expansive touchscreen display that looks almost frameless. The dual core properties are assumed not only because it is becoming the standard for high end handsets, but also because a recent copyright application bagged Sony Ericsson the Xperia Duo nametag.
The shots of the phone have been mocked up to resemble official press images as might be divulged by Sony Ericsson in the run up to the phone's release. However, there are many sceptical observers out there who believe that the images are just ambitious fakes, with inconsistencies like the onscreen date and imperfect dimensions raising questions as to the authenticity of the leak.
If Sony Ericsson is working on a smartphone which looks like the Xperia Duo as acquired by PocketNow, then it will be continuing its recent tradition of launching sleek, sexy Android handsets which stand a chance of competing with the best of the rest. However, without official verification there is no way of knowing whether such a device will ever make it to market.
It is safe to assume that Sony Ericsson will join its rivals in releasing a smartphone powered by a dual core processor at some point this year, but with Apple waiting until the autumn for its next iPhone it is unlikely that others will be in a rush to ditch all single core handsets in the mean time.
Until the next Xperia does arrive you can sell your old phone and use the cash to invest in the eminently slim Xperia Arc.
