Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc S Revealed

Sony Ericsson fans who picked up the original Xperia Arc earlier this year might want to sell their old phone in anticipation of the arrival of its successor, the conveniently titled Xperia Arc S.
This sequel is a bit of an incremental upgrade rather than a full blown revision, so you can expect a similar super-sleek design and arched rear surface that fits nicely in the hand. However, processing power has been increased by a quarter and the 4.2 inch screen is one of Sony Ericsson's Reality Displays, which combines high resolution with gorgeous colours.
The processor itself is a single core unit clocked at 1.4GHz, a good 400MHz faster than the chip found in the original Xperia Arc. In an age of dual core processing this may seem a little underpowered but with a 20 per cent increase in web page rendering speeds and a noticeably nippier interface, it seems that every little helps.
Android 2.3.4 is preinstalled on the Xperia Arc S and the eight megapixel camera can record HD video at 720p, so it is very much gunning for the top end of the smartphone market in terms of features.
Showcasing your pictures and videos is possible thanks to an HDMI output for full screen TV playback. A brand new pair of video and music download portals will be accessible via the new Xperia Arc S, which means it will be taking on the iPhone and iTunes directly once it launches later in the year.
Expect to see the Xperia Arc S in the UK from October and although Sony Ericsson has yet to announce its price, it could be positioned fairly competitively, given that only dual core handsets are able to command top tier prices in the modern mobile market.
