Sony Ericsson Urshi aims to provide compact smartphone performance

The Sony Ericsson Urshi is a device which has been the subject of speculation in recent months and now further details about the upcoming Android smartphone have been uncovered by GSMArena.
The Urshi looks set to provide a smaller, neater package for all your Android 2.3 needs, since its 3.2 inch display will make it much more pocket friendly than the 4.3 inch behemoths like the Samsung Galaxy S2 and HTC Sensation.
Despite its small display the screen will actually have a high resolution of 854x480, giving it an impressive pixel density that should make onscreen media and menus look crisp and clear.
A 1GHz processor is likely to reside within the Urshi, although it will not be a dual core chip, so do not expect it to compete directly with the high end handsets mentioned above. However, 1GHz single core CPUs are still more than powerful enough to handle most day to day functions, from gaming to web browsing.
What is most interesting about the Sony Ericsson Urshi is that its small size may well put it in direct competition with the Xperia Mini and Mini Pro, both of which come from the same manufacturer.
A fifth of an inch extra screen space may not be enough to differentiate it from its siblings and the Urshi codename might eventually be replaced with an Xperia-based moniker. Of course there is usually room for multiple models which have similar attributes and adding a high res screen to the mid range Android market could pay dividends for the firm.
Sony Ericsson has not yet announced the pricing or availability of the Urshi in the UK, but judging by the recent leaked pictures it looks to be out of the prototype stage and ready for official unveiling.
