Sony Ericsson Hallon gets in-depth early analysis

The Sony Ericsson Hallon, an upcoming Android smartphone, has been given its first thorough going over online, unveiling much more information about this promising handset.
A prototype was acquired by Mobile Review and according to the people who got to experiment with the Hallon, it is set to be quite a capable, competitive model in an increasingly saturated market.
The Hallon, which is also being referred to as the Vivaz 2, as it is the natural successor to this 2010 handset, runs Android 2.3 and has a customised interface from Sony Ericsson placed on top to make the user experience stand out from the crowd.
A rough estimate puts its display size at under four inches, so it could be a 3.5 or 3.7 inch smartphone. The display tech itself is thought to be from the Super LCD family, which means it should be bright and vibrant.
An eight megapixel digital camera is fitted on the back and, like its predecessor, it can record video in 720p HD. Early reports suggest that it will be able to capture video smoothly at this resolution, which is definitely good news.
With a 1GHz processor and 512MB of RAM, the Hallon is up there with the current crop of high end smartphones when it comes to performance, although by the time it is released, it is likely that dual-core handsets will have eclipsed it in this respect.
UK consumers should be able to pick up the Sony Ericsson Hallon in April for a price of around £300, although until the manufacturer confirms these speculative details, there will be no guarantee that this deadline will be met.
With the Mobile World Congress event taking place next month, the facts should become clearer and a concrete release date may emerge.
