Smaller Galaxy S3 model revealed in Germany

Samsung has revealed a new smartphone device joining the Galaxy range, as an alternative to the current flagship S3 handset, during an event held in Germany on Thursday.
The full size Galaxy S3 sports a 4.8 inch display, which makes it one of the largest smartphones ever made. However, some people have been put off purchasing it because of its expansive screen, so the new Galaxy S3 Mini might address these concerns.
It features a four inch touchscreen Super AMOLED display with an 800x480 resolution, which looks like it could be almost identical to the panel found onboard the two year old Galaxy S.
As well as its smaller screen, you get a dual core 1GHz processor, which is a little less impressive than the quad core 1.4GHz Exynos chip hidden inside the Galaxy S3.
On the back is a five megapixel camera and the device is preloaded with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean straight out of the box, which is a nice touch.
The Galaxy S3 Mini will be on sale for around 350, but it might encounter some issues getting off the ground, because it is priced about 100 higher than last year's Galaxy S2, which manages to outpace it in most areas.
The Galaxy S2 has a 4.3 inch display, eight megapixel camera and dual core 1.2GHz processor, which means it is still a worthy device on paper.
Of course, the Galaxy S2 has yet to receive an Android 4.1 update, although one is definitely on the cards. Samsung will have to convince consumers that the Galaxy S3 Mini is worth the asking price, by coupling it with affordable pay monthly deals, or else face making it seem less attractive than a phone that is now more than 12 months old.
