Samsung announces Galaxy Premier smartphone

Most of the details about the Galaxy Premier had leaked out ahead of its official announcement, but Samsung has finally ended the speculation, by revealing the handset in all its glory this week.
The Galaxy Premier is very similar to the Galaxy S3, but with a slightly lower specification, giving it a pricing edge over its class-leading stable mate.
It will feature a 4.65 inch touchscreen display, with a 720p HD resolution, along with a dual core processor clocked at 1.5GHz.
This puts it a little behind the 4.8 inch, quad core might of the Galaxy S3, but still makes it a competitive and powerful smartphone.
The Galaxy Premier will arrive with Android 4.1 preinstalled, which means you will not have to wait around for an update.
Although the Galaxy Premier is likely to be a little more affordable than the S3 if you purchase it upfront, it is not exactly going to be a budget option, with retail prices starting from 420.
Whether or not it will actually be made available in the UK is uncertain. It is being shipped out to emerging markets such as China, as well as to Samsung's native South Korea.
The Galaxy Premier's closest rival could be the Sony Ericsson Xperia T, which matches it for screen size, resolution and power.
The Galaxy Premier is being seen as the natural successor to last year's Galaxy Nexus, which has been taken out of circulation this month.
While Samsung could be accused of flooding the market with iteratively scaled devices, which could threaten to confuse consumers, the Galaxy Premier does seem to have a niche into which it can slot.
Whether you will want to sell your old Galaxy Nexus and upgrade to this model, or wait for the LG Nexus 4 to arrive, is another question.
