Samsung Galaxy S II emerges

Samsung has given the Galaxy S II smartphone its first public airing just in time for the start of the MWC event in Barcelona.
The original Samsung Galaxy S was a real hit, winning fans thanks to its four in Super AMOLED display and iPhone-esque looks. Now owners may be trading in their handsets or selling them to mobile recycling firms, in a bid to pick up the Galaxy S II, which looks to be a real winner on paper.
The Galaxy S II will be able to take on the best of the upcoming crop of smartphones, thanks to its dual core 1GHz processor and it will also be thinner than the iPhone 4, measuring just under 8.5 millimetres deep.
This thin design is made all the more impressive when you learn that it will have a 4.3 inch display with that all-important Super AMOLED technology, giving it great contrast ratios and unbeatable colour fidelity.
The latest Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 3.0 and HSPA+ network connectivity will help the Galaxy S II become a web-browsing favourite and with Android 2.3 onboard, it will also feature various Samsung-only enhancements, including integrated social networking and improved media features.
The Samsung Galaxy S II will have an eight megapixel camera, improving upon the five megapixel unit installed on its predecessor. It will also be able to shoot HD video clips in full HD 1080p, which will make it the equal of the LG Optimus 2X, although whether either of these phones will be able to extract decent image quality out of this high end function remains to be seen.
There is currently no word on UK pricing or availability for the Samsung Galaxy S II, but expect it to arrive later this year with a price tag that lives up to its high end specifications.
