Samsung Embraces Recycled Accessories for Smartphone Range

In an effort to make its products more sustainable, South Korean tech giant Samsung has partnered with an accessory manufacturing firm called Kvadrat in order to design and manufacture a number of add-ons for its flagship handsets which are made using recycled materials.
An official announcement from Samsung confirms that the eco-friendly accessories are produced using yarns which are themselves made from recycled plastics, specifically from the single-use plastic bottles that are still commonly encountered worldwide.
It is claimed that this yarn is beneficial not only because it prevents waste plastic from being sent to landfill but also because it means that there is no need to source fresh raw materials to produce mobile phone accessories, saving energy as a result.
A number of different phone case designs have been developed as part of this sustainable scheme, with the recycled yarn also proving to be durable and versatile, allowing it to protect the high-end Samsung Galaxy S10+ handset from wear and tear. This means that when the device comes to the end of its life, it can be sold by the customer to recoup some of its value and make the entire ownership process even more environmentally friendly.
Samsung points out that with over 60 million plastic bottles being sent to landfill on average each day, doing something to stop this figure from increasing and also creating products that customers actually want to buy can be seriously beneficial.
A single bottle can be used to make enough recycled yarn to cover two phone cases, and it is hoped that this scheme will grab the attentions of consumers who are looking for a way to get hold of the latest mobile hardware while also living up to their ambitions of making more sustainable buying decisions.
