Samsung Continuum touches down with style in New York

The launch of the Samsung Continuum took place in New York earlier this week with much fanfare surrounding yet another Android-based smartphone from the South Korean manufacturer.
The Continuum features Android 2.1 and gives the user a window onto Google's operating system with a 3.4 inch Super AMOLED display. What makes this handset unique is the fact that a secondary display is integrated beneath this to act as a ticker, bringing notifications and the latest news to the user.
This 1.8 inch ribbon display is definitely a quirky feature and it may find fans, particularly amongst those who want to absorb all of their updates at a glance.
The way in which this small display is activated is also ingenious. The Samsung Continuum can detect when it is being gripped and will automatically fire up this secondary display when you hold your phone so that you can be discrete about retrieving your updates.
The Samsung Continuum is packed with the latest technology inside as well as out. You get a 1GHz processor and 8GB of storage space along with a five megapixel camera that can shoot HD video clips.
The launch of the Continuum was definitely an event, although the fact that its user manual leaked earlier in the day did put a dampener on proceedings. It has also been assumed that the launch party was going to herald the arrival of the Google Nexus Two which has been featuring heavily in industry rumours of late, but this was sadly not the case.
Samsung is expected to add the Continuum to its ever-expanding Galaxy range, although whether it will hit the UK any time soon has yet to be announced. For the time being it is exclusive to Verizon in the US.
