O2 staff break mobile recycling record

O2 has announced that it now has a Guinness World Record to recognise the efforts of its staff in the mobile recycling arena, as they were able to collect and process more handsets in a single week than anyone has before.
O2 has been one of the most enthusiastically green network providers in the UK over recent years, with its Think Big initiative focusing on making its business more sustainable and also encouraging its customers to behave in a more responsible manner.
The record was attained during a week in October last year, when staff managed to accumulate and recycle over 10,000 old mobile phone handsets, which allowed them to net in excess of £38,000.
This money will be plumbed back into the Think Big project, which also helps to fund organisations and initiatives aimed at helping the UK's young people achieve the things they want in their local communities.
O2 is taking a number of approaches to encouraging a greener approach to mobile usage in the UK, with its choice to actively point out which mobile phones are the most environmentally sustainable being rolled out to stores across the country.
O2 is keen to keep its staff involved in Think Big, with thousands giving up their free time in order to help volunteer their support for various facets of the initiative.
The profits of the mobile phone recycling scheme are just a small amount of what is needed to keep Think Big going, but thankfully, since the record breaking recycling week, O2 has continued to increase its efforts and get more and more mobile donations flowing in.
So far, more than half a million pounds has been generated from mobile recycling alone, which is helping to put Think Big projects on the right track.
