O2 pushes charitable mobile recycling initiative

Network provider O2 is using its mobile recycling service in order to benefit the young people of the UK who are working hard to improve their local communities.
O2 has committed to passing on the profits made from its recycling program to the Think Big initiative, which recognises the youngsters who want to give back to society.
O2's recycling program has been in operation for just over a year and while like other recycling services it is greener than simply disposing of your phone at a landfill, it comes with even more brownie points for your conscience, as the passing on of profits will have a wider societal impact.
O2 conducted a study which found that 66 per cent of UK mobile users now choose to recycle their old phones once they have got an upgrade. Since O2 began paying cash for used mobiles it has doled out £10 million to users across the country and will now be passing on any profits to this good cause.
Like most mobile recycling services the used mobiles are usually sold on to the international market where they are used for spares or kept complete and provided as a cheap option for people in developing markets, who need a mobile to communicate and enhance their lives.
O2 had been working with Think Big in the past, donating £1 for ever recycled handset, but it is upping this investment as part of a drive to promote recycling and also to get some good publicity.
Think Big attempts to turn around the negative stereotypes levelled against the youth of today by a nervous media, incentivising youngsters to get out into their communities and make a difference with cash donations to projects.
O2 is committed to getting good prices for those looking to recycle their mobiles, so its charitable work will not impact on what it is willing to pay.
