Finnish mobile manufacturer, Nokia, is not only one of the world's most environmentally friendly phone producers, but also a company renowned for its ethical activities across many sectors.
It has launched various mobile phone recycling campaigns in different regions of the world and now NokNok.tv reports that it has released an official app, designed to help people recycle their unwanted handsets.
It is available for the Windows Phone operating system, which is of course the flagship software used on modern Nokia handsets, including the Lumia 920.
The app is appropriately named Nokia Phone Recycler and it presents users with an interactive tool to help them find out more about the recycling process and thus encourage them to part ways responsibly with an old device.
There is even a game built into the app that lets you break down a virtual mobile into its various components and see how these can be reused and recycled without them going to waste.
While the app mainly deals with Nokia handsets, the lessons it teaches are applicable to every mobile device.
In addition, it is coded in HTML5, which means that most modern smartphones will be able to run it. So while the Nokia Phone Recycler app is only on Windows Phone at the moment, it is also compatible with Android and iOS, which could mean ports are on the way any day now.
Nokia knows that the best way to increase rates of mobile phone recycling is to inform people about the industry and encourage them to take responsibility for how they use old handsets.
The app is free to download and use, so Windows Phone fans can go and try it out right now to expand their knowledge of mobile phone recycling in all of its forms.
