Next year is set to be a significant one for Sony Ericsson as details of a range of new handsets have emerged online, adding to the rumour mill which has been churning ever since it emerged that a PlayStation phone is in development by the manufacturer.
First it emerged that there are to be a pair of new handsets which, rather than existing as entirely new entities, will in fact be revisions of existing Sony Ericsson mobiles.
The first is called the Anzu and it is essentially an enhanced version of the Xperia X10, sporting a larger 4.3 inch display and a 12 megapixel camera, according to reports on TechRadar.
The second is the Hallon which will be an adaptation of the Sony Ericsson Vivaz, kicking out the Symbian OS of old and replacing it with a brand new Android alternative.
Over the weekend some new developments were discovered as a number of images emerged online showing a Sony Ericsson smartphone branded with Vodafone Germany logos and running the firm's custom user interface over the top of Android.
In addition to these leaks an account on photo sharing site Picasa has been created to debut a selection of eight megapixel images which are claimed to be test shots from new Sony Ericsson mobiles.
It is clear from the images that the smartphone is joining the Xperia range and its photographic capabilities certainly seem to be an important asset, as Engadget suggests it will sport a HD-ready forward facing camera, given the large nature of the aperture compared to rivals.
For now observers can only speculate on the nature of these devices, but it seems clear that Sony Ericsson is getting ready to unveil some serious smartphone hardware in the next 12 months.
