Motorola unveils two new smartphones

Motorola used a press event in the US last week to give the world a first look at a pair of new Android-based smartphones.
The first is known as the Triumph, while the second is being referred to as the Photon 4G, which indicates that it will probably be made available across the pond before it makes the transfer to the UK.
The Photon 4G has a fairly impressive list of specifications, what with its dual core Nvidia Tegra 2 processor and 4.3 inch touchscreen display. It even has a flip-out kickstand and indicates that Motorola is looking to take on rival HTC when it comes to multimedia functionality and raw number-crunching power.
An eight megapixel primary snapper on the rear and a more basic forward facing camera for video calls are par for the course, with Motorola breaking the Android mould and including a physical button for taking pics.
Android 2.3 is preinstalled and 16GB of storage space is built in, with expansion possible via microSD memory card. HDMI functionality will come as a nice surprise, allowing you to view content from the phone on the big screen.
The Motorola Triumph is a little less powerful and bulky than its sibling, bringing with it a single core 1GHz processor and a four inch display. Version 2.2 of Android is onboard and while its camera can capture HD video clips it only has a five megapixel resolution for taking stills.
Motorola seems to be offering up smartphones for all price brackets and in an age when hardware is beginning to come into the fore once again, this is certainly an important part of any marketing strategy. No UK launch information was released but a transatlantic crossing is to be expected for such competitive mobile devices.
