Motorola to offer fully personalised smartphones

Motorola is gearing up to launch the mid-range Moto X phone this autumn, with new reports from ABC News in the US suggesting that it could offer buyers a unique opportunity to get involved in the design of their next mobile.
The X Phone will allegedly be a moderately powerful Android 4.2.2 device, with a multicore processor and a decent display.
But all this under the skin wizardry is going to be eclipsed to a certain degree by the potential for buyers to actually tell Motorola what they want their handset to look like.
As well as being able to pick the colour of the phone, users will be able to request that a special message or inscription is carved into the back panel, giving it that completely custom look.
The choice of internal hardware is limited to storage capacity, although for most, the ability to meddle with the exterior will be a good enough reason to give the X Phone the time of day.
Motorola is going out of its way to market this new handset as a domestically produced device, because it is indeed built in its native US, rather than assembled overseas and then shipped in.
This state of affairs makes the customisation much easier to organise, although at the moment, it is unclear as to whether British buyers will be able to make similar alterations.
Whatever the case, you can still expect this handset to hit the UK after its October release, with network providers likely to offer it in predetermined hues.
Apple is getting ready to release a budget iPhone, encased in its own array of colourful shells. This could put pressure on Motorola's handset later in the year, although this talk of customisation might be enough to convince fans which way to lean.
