Motorola muscles in with new smartphones at CES

Motorola is continuing its assault on the smartphone market by introducing a number of new Android-based options at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas this week.
After the firm was split in two, the mobile-oriented half is upping its game with a number of high end handsets, including an LG Optimus 2X-bothering dual core phone.
Motorola's Sanjay Jha said that the manufacturer was going to be innovating in various segments of the market, promising that a tablet based on Android 3.0 would be arriving, along with a selection of top tier smartphones.
Most significant among the announcements is the Motorola Atrix, a mobile with a processor that possesses two physical cores, each running at 1GHz. This effectively doubles the processing power possessed by current generation handsets, like the HTC Desire HD and Samsung Omnia 7.
The Atrix will have an innovative 4.3 inch display that will use the latest technology, making it easier to use outside, while also presenting users with crisp onscreen images, thanks to a high native resolution.
As well as announcing the Atrix, Motorola has also debuted the Dext 2 and the Droid Bionic. The former will be getting a UK launch but sadly the latter looks destined for a US-only audience, because of its LTE 4G networking capabilities that would not be supported on our shores.
The Motorola Atrix is definitely going to wind up in the UK, as mobile network operator Orange has said that it has struck a deal to launch the handset at some point in 2011. A summer launch would not be out of the question, but official details will need to be sought before this can be confirmed.
Motorola is bouncing back from the brink with smartphones that can take on major rivals at Apple, which is good news for mobile lovers who can benefit from a competitive market.
