Motorola Atrix gets May launch date in UK

The Motorola Atrix is set to arrive in the UK at the start of next month as network provider Orange has confirmed the availability of this hybrid Android 2.3 smartphone.
The Atrix is definitely a market leader when it comes to specifications, packing a 1GHz dual core Nvidia Tegra 2 processor which is the match of the LG Optimus 2X along with 1GB of RAM for nippy multitasking.
What makes the Atrix stand out is the fact that it will support both Android and something called the WebTop OS which, when it is connected to a special dock accessory, will basically turn it into a full laptop.
The dock is likely to cost around £300 on its own, so it is not necessarily going to be the cheapest option for anyone who is buying it outright. However, with a contract deal the cost may be mitigated somewhat and anyone who wants to have a smartphone which is also as capable as a netbook and many times more portable might find the Atrix and interesting consideration.
For the time being the Motorola Atrix is being marketed as the world's fastest smartphone, although the impending arrival of the Samsung Galaxy S2 and HTC Sensation, which will both pack 1.2GHz processors, implies that this title may be short lived.
Of course having all the power will only be worthwhile if it is put to good use and with the WebTop OS and compatible dock it looks like Motorola is certainly stretching the Atrix to make the most of its advanced hardware.
The one issue with the influx of dual core, high end smartphones is that there is not yet a clear indication as to whether making an upgrade from a single core phone is actually worthwhile.
