Mobile recycling surge sparked by Samsung Galaxy S4

It is not unusual to see an increase in the number of people looking to sell their old mobile phone, once a new handset is released and the time comes to upgrade.
People recycle phones to help recoup a bit of the value that is still held by older handsets and also to do their bit for the environment, but this year, the hype surrounding the release of the Samsung Galaxy S4 has caused consumers to start selling devices unusually early.
Phones Review reports that 127 per cent more people were getting online valuations for their last generation Samsung smartphones, in the run up to the release of the Galaxy S4 than before it had been announced, with a third more browsers actually following through and selling an older handset.
This means that there is not only more interest in selling Samsung handsets, but a greater number of people actually choosing to recycle their old devices as a whole.
The impact to the trade-in value of certain smartphones has been impacted by the announcement and due to the impending release of the Galaxy S4, Apple's iPhone range has seen a six per cent dip in its used valuation, for example.
It is obviously important to compare the prices offered to you when you are selling your old mobile phone online, because certain companies will give you a better deal than their rivals, to secure your custom.
With the Galaxy S4 influencing sales and values before it has even hit stores, we could start seeing other new devices having repercussions, prior to international release.
In the past, it has been Apple product launches that have the most marked effect on the used phone market, but Samsung's ascent and the popularity of the Galaxy range, could change all that.
