Mobile recycling service quality more important than price, survey finds

Respondents to a study on mobile recycling have revealed that many would be less worried about the price they receive for their old handsets, than the quality of the service offered by the recycling firm which they choose.
Sixty-eight per cent of those questioned by Mobile Phone Recycling said that they would value an assurance of a given recycler's ability to streamline the process, above and beyond a pure comparison on a cash basis.
This news is significant for recyclers as well as the comparison sites which collate all of the different deals which allow consumers to sell their old mobile phones on after they have got an upgrade. It means that a slight dip in the payouts would be accepted by most consumers as long as they could be guaranteed a better level of overall service.
Although the mobile recycling market is growing and has become significant enough to support comparison sites, the lack of any real regulation or direct quality comparison is leaving consumers with little to go on when it comes to picking between ostensibly similar services.
Mobile recycling expert, Charlie Lavender, said that the expansion of the market means that many consumers do not really understand the difference between the multitude of recycling firms.
Lavender warned that small-time recycling programmes run by amateurs, posed a threat to larger firms as they can damage the reputation of the industry as a whole, by providing a poor quality of service to consumers due to a lack of experience.
Of course price comparison in the mobile market does have its uses and can directly help consumers to find the best offers, in terms of both price and service. Many sites offer comparison of the postage methods, payment types and total value of a handset from the various big names in the mobile recycling industry which can be trusted.
