Mobile recycling firm anticipates January rush

UK recycling business, RPC Recycle, has announced that the number of people selling their old mobile phones is rising dramatically in January in the wake of the Christmas period.
This is to be expected since many people are given a new mobile as a gift and, as a result, the outgoing handsets are either consigned to a drawer or, as is increasingly the case, sold on to recoup some of their value for the owner.
Spokesperson Rebecca Downie, pointed out that January is traditionally the most hectic time of the year for many mobile recycling organisations. She also said that some old phones can bring in a neat little bundle of cash for their owners, which can help towards paying for network tariffs or new handsets.
Downie indicated that mobile phones have a relatively short lifespan, with many people choosing to replace them each year as a new and improved range of phones hits the market, making Christmas the ideal upgrade period for millions of Brits.
The green benefits of recycling a mobile phone are more widely understood and consumers are aware that if they just throw them in the bin and they get sent to landfill, the harmful components will do damage which could be prevented if they are properly recycled, according to Downie.
More than half a million litres of water can be contaminated by a single improperly discarded mobile phone battery, which is a fairly overwhelming figure and one which is encouraging UK consumers to take the time to recycle rather than turn handsets into dangerous refuse.
Mobile recycling is a growing market and there are many different organisations who will offer to buy an old handset, although prices and special offers are not always consistent across the board, so comparing and contrasting offers makes sense.
