Mobile recycler partners with pawnbroker

A new deal forged between Telecom Supplies Recycling (TSR) and the Ramsdens chain of high street pawnbrokers is set to promote mobile phone recycling in the UK.
Mobile Today reports that TSR and Ramsdens have agreed a multi-million pound partnership, which will see unwanted devices collected by the former and then sold on by the latter.
Ramsdens deals mainly in the buying and selling of gold and silver, but there is clearly a lot of money to be made from the mobile phone recycling market.
It has 130 stores in the UK, mainly located in Scotland, Wales and the north of England. TSR has been expanding its Yorkshire-based operations to help keep up with demand and can now handle used mobiles at a much faster pace, preparing them for resale after they have been collected and ensuring that the previous owners are paid promptly.
Customers can expect to be paid within 24 hours of the device having been received, minimising delays.
TSR not only collects old mobile phones from consumers in the UK but also has operations overseas, in countries such as Spain, Sweden and even Dubai.
It helps major corporations recycle their unwanted mobile devices after enterprise gadgets have been upgraded. This means it has to put an emphasis on security, with the deletion of private data one of its fortes.
Now that Ramsdens is involved, it should be easier for TSR to sell the refurbished mobiles rather than having to break them down and harvest the components from them.
It is quicker, easier and more environmentally friendly for an old phone to be reused rather than completely recycled, so having access to a chain of pawnbrokers should make this simple to achieve.
Spokesperson, Colin McLaughlin, said that Ramsdens and TSR are hoping to evolve their relationship over time and find new ways to take advantage of the mobile phone recycling market in the UK.
