Mobile phone recycling earns school kids a Jedward concert

A school in Ireland which managed to recycle thousands of mobile phones for charity was rewarded for all its hard work by a visit from pop star twins Jedward, who performed for and mingled with the youngsters.
Almost 2,300 mobile phones were recycled by the students of St Comcille's National School in Dublin and according to the Irish Times, this raised a significant amount of cash for the Jack and Jill foundation, which gives respite care to hundreds of mentally handicapped children.
Jedward were the novelty survivors during The X-Factor but in the two years since they dropped out of the competition in the final stages, many have been surprised at their ability to establish themselves as bona fide stars in their own right.
As well as representing Ireland at Eurovision this year, Jedward most recently had American president Barack Obama in the audience when he visited Dublin in May.
When Jedward turned up at the school which had made a real effort to raise money for charity via mobile recycling the pupils had no idea about the treat that they had in store.
Security staff and reporters followed the twins in as they arrived at the school hall and kids were allowed to mingle with the terrible twosome after they had put on one of their typically interesting performances.
It is good to see mobile phone recycling as a valuable fundraising tool for charities across the UK and Ireland. Since parents are asked to donate discarded old tech rather than hard cash, it can be much easier for kids to get the kind of help they need with any charitable initiative.
The fact that the kids found almost 2,300 old mobile phones without knowing about the reward they might receive in return is also impressive.
