Mobile Recycling Company Publishes Handset Theft Data

Mobile phone theft is still a serious issue across the UK, although certain regions are more susceptible to this type of crime than others, according to figures published by gadget recycling specialist Mazuma.
In official data it gathered direct from law enforcement agencies nationwide, it was found that Leeds is the biggest hotspot for device thievery, with over 6000 incidents reported over the last three years, according to the Telegraph and Argus.
Second place was taken by Newcastle upon Tyne, while the top five was rounded out by Liverpool, Bristol and Hull.
Meanwhile, at the other end of the spectrum, the safest places, where it is easier to avoid mobile phone theft than anywhere else, include Bournemouth, with just 490 incidents over the covered period, along with Derby, Nottingham, Bradford and Plymouth.
Obviously, population density plays a part in determining the number of thefts, so this study is not entirely representative of the proportional realities facing mobile phone owners in Britain. Even so, it shows that this is a trend which is still widespread and leaves many thousands of people bereft of their essential portable device.
The report also looked into the different types of mobile brands that are most commonly stolen, with Apple topping the list in the majority of places, second only to Samsung in terms of its prevalence.
As the iPhone range is one of the nation’s best-selling, this makes total sense. Apple handsets also manage to retain their resale value to a much greater degree than any rival phones, so thieves clearly have more of an incentive to target this type of device.
Furthermore, anyone who wants to sell an old mobile phone can also expect to get more money for it if it has an Apple logo on it.
