Mini variant of Galaxy S4 Active inbound

Samsung is almost certainly working on a smaller counterpart to its Galaxy S4 Active handset, with reports from China and the US pointing to an impending announcement.
The Galaxy S4 Active is effectively identical to the standard S4, but like the recent flagship Sony Xperia devices, it features a waterproof chassis,to make it a little more durable and versatile.
The S4 Active Mini will apparently feature a 4.65 inch touchscreen display, with a 480x800 resolution making it a little less impressive than the 1080p-toting Galaxy S4. Keen observers will note that this screen is still quite a bit larger, so Samsung is using the 'mini' nametag to denote a specification downgrade, rather than the physical properties of the phone.
Onboard, you get a dual core 1.2GHz processor and a single gigabyte of RAM, while a five megapixel primary camera will do a decent, if not market-leading, job of capturing images.
TheDroidGuy reports that filings for the Galaxy S4 Active Mini have been made in at least two countries, which indicates that a global rollout could be on the cards.
Hard-wearing smartphones are becoming a bigger part of the modern mobile market, with manufacturers finally delivering devices which are resistant to dust and liquid intrusions, while still being stylish and slim.
These features will definitely be the main selling point of the Galaxy S4 Active Mini, as the rest of the hardware is nothing to write home about and will make it an otherwise modestly powered mid-range Android device.
People who want a big-screen smartphone experience without the high cost might also be in the target audience for this new model, which comes close to matching its costlier peers in terms of sheer area, even if the pixel density will not be in the same league.
