Lincolnshire bottle recycling centre could grow

The Eco Plastics bottle recycling plant based in Lincolnshire is set to expand its operations during 2013, after winning a 6 million investment.
The site is already the largest of its kind in the world, handling more than 450,000 plastic bottles in an hour and recycling about three billion annually at its current output.
That is a decent amount of recycled bottles, but it is clear that there is a need for greater throughput at the site, according to This Is Lincolnshire.
Eco Plastics became such a major bottle recycling centre, after a partnership was forged with Coca-Cola Enterprises earlier in 2012, allowing it to claim its current title in May of this year.
Ongoing investment has helped the plant to grow, but further money is needed to help it reach its full potential, according to spokesperson, Jonathan Short.
The 6 million raised in this round of investment goes on top of the 24 million that the centre won in July of last year.
As a result of this original investment, this single site was able to double the amount of recycled plastic that the UK could handle in a year.
150,000 tonnes of plastics can be recycled at the centre each year, of which about a third is then turned back into bottles.
This kind of approach is perfect for the modern market, where more and more people are now choosing to recycle their unwanted plastic bottles, rather than simply sending them straight to landfill.
Growing this site will benefit the UK and also make it more competitive in the emerging green industries market.
The more processing of recyclables we can do on our own shores, the less we will have to export. This can be a costly process, which is why keeping it in-house is desirable.
