Leaks hint at upcoming BlackBerry smartphone

A prototype handset from Canadian manufacturer Research in Motion (RIM), with a distinctly UK-themed name, has been spotted via spy pics published online.
The BlackBerry London is said to be in development at the moment and it will become one of the first in the range to run the BBX operating system, according to The Verge.
The London is said to sport a 3.7 inch touchscreen display, doing away with the physical keyboard setup favoured by previous BlackBerry devices.
Judging by the leaked image, it will be slim and feature a relatively angular chassis, topped off with chrome elements. There is also the possibility of a kickstand style feature, which will allow the BlackBerry London to be rested horizontally for tabletop viewing.
Of course since this is reportedly a prototype, it will probably look quite different by the time it is officially launched.
Further rumours suggest that the BlackBerry London will have a dual core 1.5GHz processor, an eight megapixel camera and up to 16GB of onboard storage space.
If the BlackBerry London does turn out to be one of RIM's flagship BBX OS devices, then it will probably not be available to buy until the middle of next year, but for people on long contracts, this could be just the breathing space they need to get ready for the next generation of this business-oriented smartphone family.
BBX OS is a software platform which RIM has adapted from the QNX operating system which powers its Playbook tablet computer. Despite relatively poor sales for the tablet, the software itself has earned praise from critics for its multitasking capabilities, which outshine rival platforms like Apple's iOS 5 for ease of use.
The BlackBerry range is in dire need of rejuvenation and the London could be RIM's ticket back to the top of the tree.
