LG showcases new smartphones at CES 2011

There is plenty of mobile intrigue to be found by sifting through the torrent of new releases making an appearance at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas this week, with South Korean manufacturer LG making its own additions to the fray.
LG has been the subject of much discussion since the announcement of the dual-core Optimus 2X, but now a pair of alternative smartphones have been unveiled for all to see.
The first is called the LG Optimus Black, which is being touted for its thinness and light weight, which has led some to call it out as the retail version of the LG B prototype that was rumoured at the end of the year. If this is the case, then it could sport a four inch display and feature a build that is slimmer than even the iPhone 4.
The Optimus Black will also have a forward-facing camera which has a two megapixel sensor, making it capable of high definition video calls, that might only be possible once 4G networking has become widely available.
The second handset under scrutiny is the LG revolution, which, according to Engadget, will be a 4G handset aimed at the US market. This could mean that it is either kept away from the UK or rebranded with the 4G components stripped out, but LG is claiming that it will have access to the world's largest next-gen network, which bodes well for the future.
LG has been focusing on low end and mid range smartphones in recent years, leaving the high end of the market to the likes of Apple and HTC. Now things are changing and it is leveraging the Android operating system in combination with top of the line hardware in order to make 2011 a very special year.
