LG Star renamed Optimus 2X, gets European launch window

Much discussion has surrounded the LG Star in recent weeks as new details on the world's first dual core smartphone were gathered, but now official news from LG, confirms that this next-gen smartphone will hit the market as the Optimus 2X.
Joining the Optimus range makes sense since it will run Android 2.2, but in terms of hardware, it will outclass anything that LG or any other manufacturer currently has on sale.
This superiority will be provided by the Tegra 2 processor from Nvidia, which has a 1GHz clock speed on two physical cores, effectively doubling the theoretical power available to the user.
In short, the LG Optimus 2X will be blisteringly fast, although whether it will be able to put this speed to good use in daily activities remains to be seen. The majority of its power will be used to run full 1080p video capture using the eight megapixel rear-facing camera and then output this full HD content to your TV via the HDMI output.
8GB of storage space will be available onboard, along with a microSD memory card slot for further expansion. A forward-facing 1.3 megapixel camera will allow for video calling, but observers are concerned that the 1500mAh battery will not be able to keep up with all the power-hungry hardware.
LG has said that the Optimus 2X will be making its debut in South Korea in January 2011 and will subsequently launch in Europe and the UK within a few weeks, which means those who are hungry for the bleeding edge technology that it offers, will not have to wait long.
Although the LG Optimus 2X will ship with Android 2.2 onboard, the manufacturer has promised to produce an update that will bring version 2.3 to the handset as soon as possible.
