The summer is well and truly here, with hot weather raising spirits across much of the UK over the past two weeks, with yet more heat waves promised in the near future.
These kinds of conditions encourage Brits out of the house and into the great outdoors, with many people choosing to take short trips or longer holidays to one of the hundreds of excellent seaside resorts.
And as Channel Online reports, the island of Jersey is taking action to ensure that its own beaches are kept as neat and tidy as possible during the peak season.
A total of eight major beaches around the coast of the island have been chosen to take part in a new recycling scheme which aims to prevent waste being left there by holidaymakers and also improve the sustainability of the area as a whole.
A number of recycling banks have been established at these beaches, allowing tourists and locals to dump their plastics and glass waste, without sending it to landfill or leaving it strewn about the place in an antisocial manner.
Local recycling scheme spokesperson, Emma Richardson, said that boosting recycling in Jersey was important and by placing the banks by the beach, it will help to instil this activity into the routines of visitors so that it is no longer seen as a chore.
She explained that the aim was not only to make it easier for people to recycle when they were at the beach, but to also spread the message about the importance of responsible waste disposal, so that it sinks in and take effect at home, at school and in the workplace.
Many of the UK's beaches will have similar facilities on offer for those who want to recycle when they are relaxing in the sun.
