Iron Man smartphone is a mid range model

Iron Man 3 is releasing at cinemas across the UK on April 25th and this trilogy-concluding blockbuster is already set to make serious amounts of cash at the box office.
Main character and billionaire superhero, Tony Stark, played by Robert Downey Jr, is known for his love of gadgetry and his ability to make incredibly intricate devices in his spare time. So it is a little surprising that the smartphone he is seen using in Iron Man 3 is the Alcatel One Touch Idol.
This handset made its first appearance at the Mobile World Congress event in January, although at the time it only received middling responses from the media because of its relatively modest specifications.
Indeed, Alcatel itself is a manufacturer that is best known for producing bargain basement mobiles rather than high end handsets that you would expect to find in the hands of Iron Man.
On the surface, the specifications of the One Touch Idol actually look relatively decent. It has a 4.7 inch display, a dual core processor with a 1GHz clock speed and half a gig of RAM.
While its screen may be large, the processor and memory put it firmly in the middle of the smartphone pack. In terms of its design, the One Touch Idol is thin at just 7.9mm deep and weighs in at only 110 grams, which might make it a little more appropriate for featuring in a major comic book movie.
The lack of any distinct branding or aesthetic differentiators might make it difficult for the One Touch Idol's starring role to actually improve sales. But it was presumably a little hard for the team behind Iron Man 3 to secure the rights to use pre-release versions of other smartphones, when filming months before their official launch.
