Impending UK launch of HTC Desire HD confirmed

HTC is set to launch another blockbusting Android smartphone in the UK on October 14th, with several networks already accepting preorders for this mammoth mobile.
HTC is establishing the Desire brand as a stamp of quality and the original Desire is still selling like hotcakes even as the HD and Z remixes are about to make their first UK appearances.
The Desire HD is essentially a UK version of the Evo 4G, which arrived in the US this summer, but with Android 2.2 onboard and the WiMAX network connectivity stripped out to accommodate the standard 3G networks offered by most UK providers.
The Desire HD is a striking, large smartphone which definitely makes its presence felt, thanks to its 4.3 inch touchscreen display. HTC has previously used a 4.3 inch screen with the HD2, although this aging device was based on Microsoft's outgoing Windows Mobile platform and so failed to find a mainstream audience.
Inside the HTC Desire HD is a 1GHz processor and, perhaps more significantly, 768MB of RAM. This should give it plenty of power and will make multitasking a breeze, which is useful if you like to keep several apps running simultaneously.
The inclusion of HTC's much loved Sense user interface on top of Android 2.2 will certainly win plaudits from critics, but it will be interesting to see whether the slightly compromised pocketability of the Desire HD acts as a wedge between it and widespread success.
An eight megapixel camera with 720p video capture will allow the Desire HD to live up to its suffix and it is already expected to hit the street free on a contract costing around £35 per month. This will put it at a price point between the existing Desire and Apple's iPhone 4.
