Images of LG Optimus Star emerge

Pictures showing the upcoming LG Optimus Star smartphone have been leaked, proving that the South Korean manufacturer is dedicated to the Optimus brand and the Android operating system.
The Optimus Star is set to be a high end device which features a four inch touchscreen display, 1080p video capture and an eight megapixel camera. It will also use a dual core processor from graphics chip manufacturer NVidia.
If the Optimus Star arrives on the market with these specs it will be recognised as the world's first dual-core, Nvidia-powered smartphone.
Although the operating system of the Optimus Star is unclear, it looks like LG is going with an Android variant, as Google branding is clearly visible on the images, according to Engadget.
Ideally version 2.3 of Android will be preinstalled to make sure that it is bang up to date. Observers have pointed out that the presence of a secondary camera for video calling implies that it is gunning for Android 2.3 from day one.
On paper the LG Optimus Star is an exciting device that bears all the hallmarks of a next generation smartphone. By the time it arrives it is likely to be in competition with other offerings from major rivals, but, until then, LG has the chance to perfect its hardware platform and tweak the software to make sure it is ready for a fight.
The LG Optimus range got a boost earlier this week when news emerged about the strong sales of the Optimus One. This managed to shift a million units, allowing LG to break its personal best for the fastest selling handset in its ranks.
Although LG has not made official the news about the Optimus Star, or confirmed that it will be making an appearance in the UK, its new found success with this range should be encouraging news in this respect.
