HTC heading for Facebook-dominated mobile feature set

Taiwanese smartphone manufacturer HTC has consolidated its commitment to bringing in-depth integration of social networking site Facebook to its future releases, by saying that as well as Facebook-branded handsets, it will be bringing ingrained functions to other mobiles.
The firm recently revealed the HTC ChaCha and Salsa handsets, both of which will bear the Facebook logo and come with core software features that make interacting with contacts on the site even simpler.
Now HTC's UK director, Jon French, has said that other smartphones in its extensive range could be getting similar functions in the near future.
Mr French told TechRadar that not only would Facebook features become a core selling product of future launches, but he also suggested that the same could be true of other third party platforms, which means the social networking functions of HTC's next-gen handsets could be unrivalled.
Mr French pointed out that with the ChaCha and Salsa it was looking to grab a different area of the market to the section which typically opts for the latest high powered smartphones. In short, he is identifying that the firm wants to capture the youth market, where members organise their entire lives using Facebook, Twitter and other similar services.
In his statement, he made clear that Facebook was not the only company which could have potential ties to future HTC projects. This leaves the door open for various other firms to become assimilated into smartphones, which could mean that audio streaming from Spotify or movie streaming from LoveFilm might be potential candidates.
The open-ended nature of HTC's mobile philosophy is definitely working to its benefit and allowing it to experiment with new features and technologies, while other rivals are tied down by corporate loyalties and rigid, closed down software platforms.
