HTC expected to expand 4G phone offerings at CES

Reports suggest that Taiwanese mobile manufacturer HTC is going to bolster its offering of smartphones which have 4G connectivity at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) next month.
At the moment, HTC is one of the only manufacturers to offer 4G handsets, although the US market has been the major beneficiary of the likes of the Evo 4G smartphone, which uses Wi-MAX connectivity in a select number of cities.
What is significant about the rumoured CES launch is that it will be one of the first mobiles to be able to connect to LTE networks, rather than Wi-MAX, which means it could eventually make its way to the UK once domestic network operators roll out this pseudo-4G networking standard.
The mobile in question is thought to be called the HTC Thunderbolt, according to a source quoted in Droid Life and in the early days of its life, it will probably be exclusive to the Verizon network in the US.
Early indications show that the HTC Thunderbolt is likely to be very similar to the original Evo 4G, which made its way to the UK in an altered form to become the HTC Desire HD. The newest model will probably use Android 2.3 when it launches and its original Wi-MAX modem will be replaced with one that is compatible with LTE networks.
Detailed pictures of the HTC Thunderbolt have appeared, showing that it will have a kickstand to make watching media without having to hold the phone easy, along with a dual-LED flash to support its digital camera.
All will be revealed in the coming days once CES kicks off and Las Vegas becomes the focus of the tech world. The promise of next-gen 4G connectivity is exciting for anyone who has ever willed a web page to load or a file to download over 3G.
