HTC Ruby revealed in pics

Pictures of a new smartphone from HTC called the Ruby have appeared online, providing fans with a few pertinent details about this, as yet, unannounced handset.
The images have emerged from within an HTC assembly plant and are not the best quality in the world, but they do give enough insight into the Ruby to stir up a little speculation.
Firstly it looks like HTC is going to be producing another mid to entry level smartphone in the Ruby after focusing on the top price bracket in the market with the recent launch of the HTC Sensation.
It looks a little more plastic than the unibody metallic finishes associated with HTC's range-leading handsets. However, you still get a large touchscreen along a rear facing camera, with dual LED flashlights and, given that the Flikr account which posted these pics is now inactive, it seems that they are almost certainly the real deal.
At the moment it seems that the HTC Ruby will be another Android-based smartphone aimed at users who do not want to spend vast amounts to enjoy modern features.
Some have suggested that the Ruby might come with Windows Phone 7, another platform which HTC is supporting. However, with Microsoft's minimum system requirements in place and a focus on manufacturers producing premium looking handsets, it seems unlikely that this will be the case.
HTC has produced a number of successful budget smartphones over the years to counterbalance its expensive alternatives, including the Tattoo and the recent release of the ChaCha and Salsa handsets.
Quite where the HTC Ruby will fit into this line-up remains to be seen, although there is no doubt that the bottom end of the market can support multiple handsets like this and that Android has the scalability to work at this level.
