HTC Evo 3D confirmed for UK launch

HTC will be bringing its dual-camera-wielding, autostereoscopic display-sporting Evo 3D smartphone to the UK at some point next month, with prices starting from an estimated £450 if you want to nab it SIM free.
The Evo 3D is similar to the HTC Sensation in that it has a dual core 1.2GHz processor parked alongside Android 2.3, but its 4.3 inch 3D display and twin five megapixel cameras mark it out as quite a different beast when it comes to media capture and playback.
Video recording in 3D in combination with direct 3D playback without the need for glasses will definitely be a hot feature once the Evo 3D is available in July. You will also be able to watch 3D movie trailers, play 3D games and enjoy stereoscopic homescreens to enhance the whole experience.
Jamming all this high end tech into a smartphone has come at a bit of a price, because the Evo 3D will weigh a hefty 170 grams, even more than the Sensation. The LG Optimus 3D, which shares the dual camera setup found here, is of an equivalent weight so it is at least competitive with its immediate rival.
Controlling the 3D effects will be possible via a slider located on the side of the phone, just like the one found on the Nintendo 3DS handheld console. This will let you adjust the depth of the effects and even turn it off completely, allowing you to find your own comfort zone for 3D viewing.
HTC is hoping that its focus on photographic prowess will let the Evo 3D stand out, although most people will definitely be glued to the 4.3 inch 3D display when they first get their hands on it. Observers will be interested to see how this 3D mobile fares in an untested area of the market.
