HP promises refunds for Pre3 buyers

People who invested in the HP Pre3 smartphone when it was at full price will be pleased to hear that after the dramatic reduction in its RRP, the manufacturer is committed to refunding the difference so that you do not lose money.
The Pre3 was originally priced at close to £400, although it dropped quickly to under £300 on many retailers' sites after it was launched, towards the end of August.
The death knell was rung for the WebOS operating system that powers the Pre3 and its sister device, the HP TouchPad tablet, just a day after the smartphone arrived in the UK last month, leaving many who pre-ordered feeling unhappy.
The price of the Pre3 was subsequently slashed to just £69 via certain retailer partners and now HP is committed to giving back early adopters the difference between this new low price and the amount they paid for their smartphone.
If you want to jump from the WebOS bandwagon altogether then it might make sense to sell your old mobile phone after you have got your refund from HP, in order to recoup a vast majority of your money.
While the TouchPad is getting an update that will bring the Android operating system to it, there may not be the same improvements for the Pre3, which makes it less attractive.
As long as you activated your Pre3 prior to the 23rd of August you will be eligible for the refund. Of course if you did not unpack your smartphone immediately you may have missed this small window, which might mean no refund will be possible, so check carefully to see whether it applies to you.
To be fair, the Pre3 is a very capable smartphone that excels at multitasking, so you may want to retain it until your contract expires. However, the lack of new apps may cause you to recycle your phone in search of a better model.
