Google creates web portal for Android Market

Owners of Android smartphones will now be able to browse the more than 200,000 apps on the Android Market from the comfort of their PCs and laptops, as Google has launched the desktop site for the digital download portal.
The site went live earlier this week and it is already being praised for its intelligent design and simple to use interface. This is definitely a positive step, since the Android Market was relatively difficult to use on mobiles for some time, until Google remedied it with an updated UI.
One of the best features of the Android Market site is that users will be able to download apps by buying them on their PC and then getting them automatically sent to their mobile. There is no need to hook up the phone via USB as synchronisation will be seamless and you can log into the Android Market site using your Google login details to keep your device up to date with new software.
With the creation of the Android Market web store, Google is finally able to offer its customers a platform which is roughly the equivalent of the iPhone's linkage with iTunes.
Users will be able to view extended details on each of the apps and games featured in the Android Market and, given the explosive growth which it has enjoyed, this will be a much needed capability.
It is thought that Google is not only launching the Android Market for desktop browsers because it wants to compete with Apple, but also because retailer Amazon is going to create its own independent Android app store, which could see it steal some revenue from the search giant.
This is a win-win situation for Android smartphone owners as it makes their handsets even easier to stock with new apps.
